Families First in Cabarrus County is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children and families thrive.

Since 2014, we have partnered with parents, caregivers, educators, and community organizations to create brighter futures through early childhood education, family support, and community based services.

We believe that when families are supported, children are better prepared for school, life, and long term success.

The Whole Family Model

Children do not grow in isolation. Their success is closely connected to the well being of their families.

That is why Families First in Cabarrus County works with the entire family, not just the child.

We combine early childhood education, home visiting, family support, adult education, and community partnerships to build strong foundations that last for generations.

Our work is relationship centered, culturally responsive, and grounded in evidence based practices that strengthen both children and the adults who care for them.

Our Story

Families First was founded in 2014 by Spencer and Aurora Swain after recognizing that many families faced challenges extending beyond the classroom.

Parents were balancing work, education, financial hardship, language barriers, addiction recovery, and limited access to early learning opportunities. Rather than addressing only one need, they envisioned an organization that would strengthen the entire family.

What began as a small nonprofit has grown into a trusted community partner serving hundreds of children and families each year across Cabarrus and Mecklenburg Counties.

Today, Families First continues to expand innovative programs that help children thrive while supporting the parents, caregivers, and educators who shape their futures.
