43 Children Graduate from Immersion Preschool Program

Congratulations to Cabarrus Bilingual Preschool’s Class of 2019 graduates – you made history! You are the first and only immersion NC Pre-K families to graduate since the program began in 2001! Your child’s enhanced development will prove to be a great asset to any community and the dreams they choose to pursue.

Cabarrus Bilingual Preschool’s Director of Operations, Aurora Swain, began yesterday’s ceremonies stating that, “bilingualism makes a better world, and bilingualism makes better minds” (author unknown). We are honored for this to be the 4th year of doing this program through partnerships with All Saints Episcopal Church, the Cabarrus Partnership for Children, St. James Lutheran Church, the Cabarrus County Literacy Council, community volunteers and agencies, teachers, site coordinators, business and individual donors and more. Many of these families also participated in our Parents as Teachers program, aimed to ensure school readiness; parenting proficiency; and family health.

Families First in Cabarrus County’s mission is to nurture children, empower parents, and strengthen families. Working with the whole family works – no matter the circumstances. Rev. Spencer Swain and his wife, Aurora, co-founded Families First in 2014 as a response to the overwhelming parenting and educational needs, including serving a large demographic of under-served immigrant families and their children. The organization decided to start with parents and early childhood education utilizing evidence-based programs. The center is increasingly becoming a home away from home for so many families. Through innovative practices and drawing on the strengths of families and their children, Families First is building stronger foundations in fractured parts of the community.
